Laos is one of the last South East Asian countries (with Myanmar) where the exploitation of the primary forest and logging are still allowed by the government. Logging usually involves the labour of elephants – a demanding job for both the men and the animals. It feels like an activity from another era, an anachronism, particularly in this time of technology. But, it is in this very peculiar context that I’ve tried to explore the unique relationship that bonds these people and their elephants.
