Rice cultivation is a very important part of everyday life in rural Laos, where a significant part of the population relies on their own rice production to supply their daily food. As these pictures show, it is not unusual for farm work to be completely manual, though nowadays, mechanized ploughing and sifting are becoming more prevalent.
